
Chepstow Community Music Centre is a bit like a gym for musicians!
Firstly, it provides everything you need to enjoy growing into a stronger musician:
· Space to practise
· Equipment to use
· Individual tuition options
· Music theory classes and mentoring
· Groups to join in with
· Opportunities to perform and record
· Impartial advice on all aspects of music making
Secondly, it is funded by monthly subscriptions or session by session payments.
There are membership options to suit all ages and aspirations, including the opportunity to apply for a sponsored membership – please refer to the price list. There are currently over 100 members!
The Centre is open outside normal school hours, so that its facilities can be enjoyed by musicians from the whole community. Individual tuition starts at 1.20pm on weekdays; Supervised Sessions start at 3.30pm, continuing until 7pm (Monday and Friday), 9pm (Tuesday and Wednesday) and 8pm on Thursdays
During Supervised Sessions, the following facilities are available:
· Individual tuition continues on a wide range of instruments, including singing (see INSTRUMENTS page)
· Individual practice space
· Group rehearsal space (by prior booking)
· Use of drum kits and amplifiers
· Use of music computer workstations
· Use of recording studio (by prior booking)
· Support for students studying for Music qualifications (BTEC, GCSE, A Level)
· Music theory classes and mentoring
Weekly groups include:
· Chepstow Musical Show Choir (all inclusive)
· Chepstow Community Microjazz Band (beginner to intermediate)
· Chepstow Community Big Band (advanced)
· Chepstow Community Concert Orchestra (intermediate)
There is also a Madrigal Group, African Drumming Group, Renaissance Brass Group, Steel Pans Group and Folk Group
The Music Centre is a safe, supervised environment. It has a clear Safeguarding Policy and Public Liability insurance, details of which are in membership packs and on display in all sessions.
Brian Ellam (trading as Chepstow Community Music Centre) operates as a Sole Trader in rooms let by Wyedean School.
Wyedean School's responsibility for the Music Centre is limited to letting the rooms in good faith.
The other leaders and tutors working in the Centre are self-employed.
