The Joan Ellam Musical Legacy Charitable Trust |
An opportunity for anyone to learn a musical instrument through a scholarship fund
|

An important aspect of the Music Centre is financial assistance for people who have talent and motivation for individual lessons, but can't afford it. To this end I set up the JOAN ELLAM MUSICAL LEGACY CHARITABLE TRUST in my mum's memory.
She often spoke of how she would have loved to have had the opportunity to learn a musical instrument as a child, but her family circumstances prevented it. She made sure my brother and I had lots of opportunities to learn instruments and join groups, and she was just as encouraging with her grandchildren.
The idea is to create scholarships of £120 at a time to pay our teachers for providing a term's worth of lessons to learners of any age, who meet some clear criteria for support - evidence of musical interest and ability; evidence of resilience towards medium and long term goals; evidence of need for financial assistance.
I will be looking to businesses, organisations and individuals to donate to the fund, and in return they will receive a progress report and vote of thanks. Sponsors will be invited to showcase performances by the individuals they support and by the Centre's various groups.
The Trustees are in the process of setting up a Charitable Trust - in the meantime there is a designated holding account for this sole purpose. To donate, please contact the Trustees via this site. To apply, please download the application form below.
